New Season Essentials

Winter seemed like it would never end and now the Summer heatwave has taken hold.  What products can we be using to enjoy the Summer sun rather than being overly hot and bothered by pesky flies.

Flight the Flies...

Picture
With the weather being very unpredictable at the moment and being the most talked about topic across the country, we have almost forgotten to begin our moan about one problem that horse owners struggle with every year, flies and gnats! We've tried all the products and battled with our horses to get them covered and protected, determined we won't back down to use a sponge for their whole body and quickly spraying them while they're not looking! We eventually get the spray on and then we watch the flies land on your four-legged friends and cause incredible irritation despite them being covered from head to toe!

We thought all hope was lost and the battle had been won, but it hasn't!  Global Herbs Flyfree is a supplement which goes into their feed and helps your horse cope with flies and general skin condition. It also helps to keep the breathing clear and soothes the membrane around the nose and eyes, which is brilliant when the pollen is out and our furry friends need a helping hand against Allergic Respiratory Disease! The team at Global Herbs have also produced another supplement, Global Herbs Pollenex that can go hand-in-hand with FlyFree to provide protection against itchy noses, runny eyes and all those summer worries that you and your horse know so well.

We all know that those pesky flies love a good drop fo sweat.  Get rid of the sweat and you are part of the way there getting rid of the flies. Get rid of the sweat with a citronella scented wash and you are in a win win situation.  Lemon Aid from Hawkins Organic has to be our go to wash - great for the skin, smells divine, keeps the flies at bay and really good value for money.  £9.95 for 500ml and 1 cap full makes 1 litre of wash.  For bigger yards a 5 litre pump action bottle is great for wash bays and great value for money at £35.00

Supplements that work in the heat...

After a hot and sweaty work out we'd grab a nice cold can of coke and maybe a banana to help top up our energy and fluid levels.  But what about your horse?  Helping replace lost muscle energy and lost ion salts through sweating can be key to maintaining good levels of performance.  Restore-Lyte from Equine Products UK does just that.  Keeping the correct balance of ionised body salts (positive and negative) are vital to a horse or pony’s wellbeing and the capability to perform at peak levels.Restore-Lyte is designed to assist with the rapid replacement of these ion salts lost through sweating during exercise or very hot conditions.  The intense salty taste also helps encourage horses to drink, replacing lost fluids and keeping them well hydrated.

Aloeride is a pure organic and natural aloe vera supplement, which doesn’t require refrigeration or fuss. Just store the carton in a nice cool, dry space and give your horse a daily dose of aloe vera goodness via an easy to feed sachet.

The taste-free aloe vera can be sprinkled on your horses’ feed or mixed with water to give your horse a unique blend of nutrients which help support healthy hooves, coat, skin, digestion and all round well-being.

Schooling in the heat...

Picture
When the sun eventually arrives, we all rush to go out and ride in it, resulting in not only getting 'riders tan' where the outside of your arm is a lovely tanned colour, while the inside looks the colour of a MilkyBar, but we also choose to school our horses and work hard, sweating more than when you did the same work in the winter. Ariat have a solution to this not-so-pleasant problem, by designing a stylish Prix Polo Shirt that uses Ariats Moisture Movement Technology to wick away the moisture to the fabric outer where it can quickly evaporate. It is made from a stretch performance pique fabric that is comfortable to wear, so this should be added to your season essentials!

Tried and tested; the Roeckl Mendon not only gives an excellent fit and high functionality, but they also tick the boxes for the equestrian fashionista. Their sophisticated manufacturing techniques with innovative materials absorbs humidity and provides a comfortable feeling inside the glove. Micro Mesh gives the  light and airy character. Exclusive ROECK-GRIP® provides an ideal grip that guarantees equestrians perfect tactility on the reins so that horse and rider can form a perfect team.

Some may say that they are the equine equivalent to leggings worn on their own, but Noble Riding Tights are far from it.  Comfort and function all wrapped up in a neat little package.

Thin enough to be cool on the warmer days, yet thick enough to hide a multitude of sins.  Lightweight enough to provide optimal performance but durable enough to last.  The novelty designs on the silicone knee grips are provide a playful design element with performance at its core.  The highlight for us? A perfectly sized pocket on the left thigh, perfect for an iPhone.  No more phones falling out of pockets or pushing it down the top of a riding boot.
