With a plethora of tweed, an assortment of capes and white jeans in abundance the Badminton Trot Up attire seemed to cling to tradition, yet with splashed of colour and some tapered tailoring we can still take inspiration from some of our 4* ladies.
New Zealand's Olympic team rider, Jonelle Price looked hot to trot in the yellow and paisley wrap dress, working well with the long blonde hair catching the breeze as she glided along the 'runway'.
We've taken inspiration from Jonelle and trot out our 3 top picks for dresses this season, all of which would be perfectly suited to a CCI trot up, stately home drinks party, a day at the races and treading in at Cowdrey. The Gabby Printed Dress from Hobbs takes inspiration from the wrap around aspects of Jonelle's dress and will draw the eye in at the waist creating more of an hourglass figure for the wearer, slip on some pumps or deck shoes for a sophisticated summer ensemble or pair with a darker coloured blazer for those colder days and evenings. ASOS is a great pick for on the move shopping, with so much selection at affordable prices. The Large Floral Printed Pinny Midi Dress from ASOS picks up the yellow summer vibe that we loved from, what was thankfully a sunny day in Gloucestershire. The knee length design will help preserve a ladies modesty when worn in a summer breeze and adds a graceful element to summer style. The Gracie Jersey Dress from Joules would work as a fabulous wardrobe staple, whether it is for a summer BBQ at home, the members lawn at Cowdrey or the hallowed turf of Hickstead, the simple jersey fabric is cool and light and more wearable than most being the least likely to crease.
Clean lines, white jeans and a splash of colour are also a continuing trend. We love the bright red jacket paired with a simple white vest and white jeans, a statement colour but not over worked. That's one of the reasons that we love, love, love the Women's Drivers from Fairfax & Favor (we've got the Turquoise and seem to live in them!). These should be in ever country girl's wardrobe especially when an outfit requires a splash of colour. Any of these colours will really add a touch of summer to a pair of classic white skinny jeans or chinos, colour match to a belt and you will be well away.
But what about the top half? We picked the stunning red tailored jacket and the Annabel Brocks tweed gilet as our inspiration but what's out there in the wider market to create a capsule wardrobe to ensure you are well dressed for any event?
Designed and made in England by Hicks and Brown the Melford Cashmere Jacket, this luxuriously fitted jacket is made from the finest quality cashmere and wool mix. With a classic cut and fitted to flatter all shapes this really is a must have item. Perfect for city or country, Polo and Eventing, with flats or boots, you really aren't going to go wrong with this one. Timothy Foxx have become a bit of an venters favourite with brand ambassador Gemma Tattersall sporting them on every occasion. The Catherine Tweed Jacket is our pick for the tweed and mid length spot. The Foxglove colour breaks from the traditional green tweed and adds an element of summer to the style. Again a pick that could be at many different occasions. Our splash of colour comes courtesy of Cording's Pink Linen Military Jacket. A real show stopper jacket, with fabulous contrast trimming and unusual pocket details. Exclusively designed for Cordings it is a truly unique piece. A jacket which makes you look good instantly makes you feel at your best and you are unlikely to find a more beautifully cut or more elegant summer jacket anywhere on the high street.
But what about the boys? It wouldn't be an inspired guide without the inclusion of Mr Ben Hobday, and who could neglect the 'one in a billion' rider Alex Hua Tian and his Etonian dickie-bow and exquisitely tailored suit? Then there was Ben Way, the up and coming 'amateur' rider, with his country chic look?
When you want the 'Hobday Look' this year you can't neglect the signature pieces from Holland & Cooper, Fairfax & Favor, and UVEX. For a slightly different look we've picked the Sloane Jacket from Holland & Cooper; a fitted two-button sleek tweed jacket, giving a slimming silhouette featuring 100% authentic leather under collar detailing. For the dashing and debonaire look of Alex, who are we to overlook the Hollywood A Lister's favourite of Hugo Boss? The Alerius by HUGO provides an extra-slim-fitting dinner jacket in a stretchy, new-wool fabric. A shimmering trim at the collar, buttons and pockets provides accents and ensures an exquisite touch. A classic tailored jacket with a hint of Hollywood for a subtle change from Saville Row. For Ben's look we head back to Cording's for the Red Flat Fronted Chino, a chino that is crisp, robust yet supple enough to retain its smartness for many years to come. A perfect weight, in their smart flat front style.
